Everyone probably knows that not all cars are created equal and there are some models out there you should steer clear of. So with that said, we found some cars, trucks, and SUV’s that you should beware of buying unless you know they will be reliable or not. Despite this, there are some vehicles that are just plain ‘lemons’ that you should avoid altogether. Check out these 15 Cars You Should Never Buy.

Range Rover Sport Diesel
Unfortunately, the Range Rover has never had a glowing reputation for solid reliability. One look at the consumer affairs website will tell you this with nearly 300 1-star reviews

Fiat 500X
The Fiat 500X is actually a weird retro designed, ‘road-biased’ SUV. We say weird because it doesn’t have a 4-wheel drive option like most other SUV’s.

Volvo XC90
Volvo is known for making one of the safest cars on the road. But when it comes to the 2004 and 2016 Volvo XC90, it looks like there might have been some manufacturing problems.

Nissan Xterra
The Xterra was in production from 2000 until 2015. While it seemed like a reliable vehicle, the 2005 model had a serious problem with the transmission where an internal radiator leak would cause coolant to go inside the transmission.

Jeep Renegade

Dodge Grand Caravan

Mini Cooper
The Mini Cooper is really a cool looking car retro car, and in the 2003 movie The Italian Job, we got a look at some cool stunts with a trio of these cars. But all is not fun and games when it comes to the reliability of this vehicle. 2005 seems like it was a bad model year for a lot of manufacturers and the Mini Cooper was one of these.

BMW X5
BMW’s are pretty nice cars, and they’ve been building cars for a very long time. However, every vehicle manufacturer will run into some problem with a particular model once in a while.

Ford Fiesta
This car has been manufactured for quite some time, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear there are some complaints from owners out there. However, there were also years of this particular model which anyone should beware of.

Jaguar X-Type
This company makes a pretty nice car when it comes to the Jaguar, but there are some models to beware of when looking for one. The worst models are the 2014 XF, 2002 X-TYPE, 2000 S-TYPE, 2008 S-TYPE, and the 2003 X-TYPE.

Cadillac SRX
Cadillacs are fairly nice luxury cars for the money, but they also are not without their problems as with any vehicle manufacturer. Luckily for Cadillac owners, the engine and transmission would seem reliable.

Mercedes Benz E350
When it comes to Mercedes, you’re not likely to find a lot of problems with these cars. However, the 2006 E350 had a lot of complaints about engine problems.

Hummer H3
First introduced in 2005, the H3 was the smaller of the Hummer models and was built by GM as a traditional SUV. You could also get the midsize pickup model called the H3T. It had a 3.5 Liter straight 5-cylinder engine but in 2007 the engine was updated to a 3.7L LLR engine.

Nissan Pathfinder
The Pathfinder makes it on our list with a not so surprising problem with the 2005 model year having the most troubles. The major issue was that coolant would leak into the transmission.

Ford Explorer
This vehicle has been in production for a long time, and for the most part, it’s been pretty reliable. However, the 2002 Explorer had the most complaints and was rated as the worst year due to failure and low mileage and the high cost of repair.

+David Rossco thanks. I did go to the dealer. The dealer said there is no issue with the transmission. In order for us to find out we would have to do a full diagnosed and that's going to cost you. You know the deal🤔😒

+George Abdo Thanks for the reply George. Sorry to hear you're having transmission problems. I'm one of the few old guys that drives the Accord with the manual transmission. I've heard this watching the Scotty Kilmer channel. He said Honda makes great engines, but weak automatic transmissions for the last 15 years. A new transmission costs $6000. Even though your cars warranty has expired, sometimes the manufacturer will fix it again as a goodwill gesture. This is definitely defective, and no fault of yours. No transmissions should give out after only 30 or 40 thousand miles, especially Honda's. They used to be known as one of the most reliable cars, along with Toyota's. I would talk to the service manager at the Honda Dealership you deal with. Good luck. Let me know how you make out.

+David Rossco I bought my 2013 honda accord exl v6 with 5,000 miles only back in 2014. At 20 something miles the car started to have transmission problems. At 30 sometimes miles, my transmission was done. Thank God I was under the warranty, so they fixed it and put a brand new transmission, but now I have the same problem again. What is it? Transmission is done AGAIN 🙄 except this time I'm not under the warranty anymore 😡

Wow most of these are really serious or expensive issues. Safety ones are the scariest.

I escaped that dreaded Xterra transmission problems on my 2005 model because I chose the 6 spd manual transmission. Nissan got me with a rear wheel seals that leaked at 18k mi but then I just missed the 5yr warranty limit by 4 months. I had to cough out $1700+ a bill that was reduced as I bribed the service writer with a bottle of red label Johnny Walker who openly asked for it. I appealed the repair charges with Nissan USA who declined it. Apparently, it turned out that they had a service bulletin regarding the problem of stuck-up pressure valve in the rear differential. Am still driving the Xterra; afterall, it only has 53k miles on it. Have driven it in almost all conditions, short of a Moab trail. Am a senior still driving manual that I love to do. Never owned an automatic in my previous vehicles. 😂😂

Almost 12 minutes into the video and I'm wondering where the '02 Explorer is....
Widely considered among the worst vehicles made in the past 2 decades. I spent over $3k in various repairs and was fortunate to sell mine just when the transmission started slipping. And let us not forget the rear lift gate issue. I think mine was the only one without a crack. Years later and you still see them every day.

Do not buy a hybrid vehicle. They are incredibly complex and cost a lot to repair. Either get a petrol, diesel, electric, or compressed air engined vehicle. Never get a hybrid.

Had 2 Jeeps (2013 Grand Cherokee, and 2016 Cherokee). The former was awesome. The latter stalled out 3 times, once on a highway at 65 mph. That ended my love affair with Jeep! Now driving a Subaru Forester.

First of all, let me tell you that Mercedes are REALLY money consuming, that is if you want to make sure things work. Let me basically tell you about my experience. I come from a family of Mercedes; both of my parents drive Mercedes. My father currently drives a S class and my mother drives a G wagon. Even as a kid I remember my parents frequently putting their cars in the shop. That tells you how bad it was. As for me, I have owned C300, E350, and S63 in that order. I got my first c300 on my 18th birthday and it went through a lot of problems. Yes, it could be that I was a naive driver and had no idea about taking care of cars. Despite that, I remember having to put it in shop very frequently. Then when I got to college, my parents got me an E class. I thought it would be less of a hassle to take care of due to it being more expensive than my first car. I associated higher price to better quality and performance. Yeah you have guessed it, I was wrong. (Also all of my cars were never leases and they were brand new cars.) Even thought it was a brand new car, the E class suffered from several issues varying from the A/C, suspension, brake pads, and etc. I still remember being overwhelmingly stressed out about my car in college. Then when I graduated and got into medical school, my parents bought me S63. I still have the car and am satisfied with it but I had to take it to the shop two months after purchasing because some touch function was not working. There have been minor problems with the framework inside the car as well; the display screen's cover is somehow loose(?) and I am planning to get that fixed eventually when I have the time. In conclusion, I love and adore Mercedes; from the design to performance. However, it is not for the poor or even the middle classed population. If you want your Mercedes to maintain the overall basic function, be ready to pay for hefty amount of service fees. Fortunately for me, my father knew that these cars lose their value very rapidly and bought me a new one every so year but for those who cannot do so, I definitely do NOT recommend getting a Mercedes even if you can afford the initial payment. Think of the long term and take the servicing fee into consideration because that is what will be the most burden.
